Fedora 26 – A Simple post-install guide

Still in Beta, but decided to make this how-to anyways. Shall we begin?

01. All things I find online pertaining this, all say the same: UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM!!

$ sudo dnf upgrade

02. Java & git

$ sudo dnf install git icedtea-web java-openjdk -y

03. Install Flash

Let’s add the repos first
For 32bit

$ sudo dnf -y install http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/adobe-release/adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm

Or for 64bit

$ sudo dnf -y install http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/adobe-release/adobe-release-x86_64-1.0-1.noarch.rpm

Import the keys

$ sudo rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-adobe-linux

And let’s install flash. Finally…

$ sudo dnf install flash-plugin -y

04. RPM Fusion repos
One of the most important thing one can and must do to every Fedora system!

YES! It also works for Fedora 26 Beta!

$ su -c 'dnf install https://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm https://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm'

05. Multimedia

I picked the only package I was missing and that I actually use. If I eventually need anything else to play some files, Fedora will do the favor to tell me. Also it’s the easy way.

vlc

$ sudo dnf install vlc -y

06. Internet stuff – p2p goodies and ftp support

$ sudo dnf install transmission filezilla

07. IM Stuff [Optional]

$ sudo dnf install pidgin xchat telegram-desktop

08. GIMP and it’s extras

gimp

$ sudo dnf install gimp gimp-data-extras

09. Extra suppport for compressing and decompressing files

archive

$ sudo dnf install unace unrar p7zip p7zip-plugins -y

10. Gnome tweak tool

gtt

This will give you a little bit more control over your gnome desktop.

$ sudo dnf install gnome-tweak-tool -y

After all these commands, just reboot your machine and enjoy!

Cheers!
